South Florida Strawberry Picking

South Florida strawberry picking has become a family tradition for us. For the past several years, I have taken the kids to a local strawberry patch where they are able to pick their own strawberries. We usually make our way to the strawberry patch in December or January, as that is when the strawberry patches start to welcome guests for strawberry season. It’s a fun outing that I look forward to each year. Actually, I can hardly express how much my kids enjoy walking through a field of unlimited snacks strawberries.

This year we visited Bedner’s Farm in Boynton Beach. While there, we picked loads of strawberries from their u-pick strawberry patch. I always imagine that I will use the strawberries to make some decadent dessert dish, however, I usually end up just pairing them with Nutella or shredded coconut and almonds. Delicious!

Strawberry season in Florida runs from December through April. I’ve gone in December and January and always been happy with the pickings. Unfortunately, I am unable to say whether it’s better to go strawberry picking earlier or later in the season.

Quick Tip – Before making a trip to the strawberry patch I like to head over to Instagram, search the farm’s location, and check out the photos being posted. This gives an idea of what to expect and helps prevent you from making a drive to a strawberry patch that doesn’t have many strawberries worth picking.

  1. Strawberry picking is such a fun family outing that can be done in a day. Being from Louisiana we have the strawberry capital of the world so we have many farms that we rotate visiting every year. My kids just love to pick and eat no matter how many times I tell them to wait. LOL If I am ever in Florida for strawberry season I will definitely have to visit one of these farms. Thanks so much for the good read and info. It looks like y’all had a blast!

  2. How fun! I would love to take my kids on this type of activity. Will look for places closer to Tampa.

I lived for many years in Homestead, FL, and Knauss is the best! Not only for the U-Pick, but their bakery is incredible and they have great fresh produce. The milkshake stand is something you don’t want to miss either (mango is my fav.) But on the weekends, be prepared to wait in a long line. Some people bring chairs and coffee 😉
