How can you teach your children what you do not know? This is a common question asked by those who are unfamiliar with homeschooling. This question also sums up my intimidation of teaching a foreign language to my own children.
Early on, I assumed the only way to effectively teach a foreign language would be to outsource it. While that is still an option it isn’t the only way. After speaking with seasoned homeschool moms, researching the matter myself, and trying several foreign language curriculums, I’ve learned that teaching a foreign language at home is not only doable but can also be fun.
Choosing a Foreign Language for Your Homeschool
We live in sunny South Florida amongst a melting pot of cultures, food, and language. Spanish, Creole/French, and Portuguese are some of the common foreign languages spoken here. I took this into consideration when choosing a foreign language for our homeschool. I ultimately decided that Spanish was the language we’d learn.
Thankfully, we’ve found a wonderful Homeschool Spanish Curriculum with TalkBox.Mom.
When choosing a foreign language to study in your homeschool you should consider both short and long terms benefits and goals. Consider what interests your child. Balance that with what foreign language will have the most practical use for your family. Research which tools and resources are available to you for teaching that language.
I recently discovered a wonderful resource for learning and speaking a foreign language. Talkbox.Mom will have your entire family using the foreign language of your choice every single day.
TalkBox.Mom is the perfect way to teach Spanish to those who are completely unfamiliar with the language. If you are a homeschooling family looking for a fresh and new approach to learning a foreign language TalkBox.Mom may be for you.

I love this approach to teaching a new language to my children. It takes away the extra fluff lessons and it allows me to focus on the true task at hand…… speaking Spanish!
TalkBox.Mom gives you the ability to immerse yourself in another language organically. On day one you will practice with the native speaker audio and soon after begin using phrases you’ve been practicing as life happens.

How Talkbox.Mom Works
Each box focuses on a particular theme and teaches phrases and vocabulary that you would normally use while at home doing day to day life. In this way, the lessons are uniquely relevant to homeschooling families—everything that you learn can immediately be put into practice with your kids.
We even used our new Spanish words to work on this FREE PRINTABLE FRUIT MATCHING GAME.
This is a very effective and motivating way of learning. I took Spanish classes in high school and mastered only the phrases my teacher required us to practice and use. For example, in order to be granted permission to use the restroom we had to ask in Spanish. Because of this, I will never forget the phrase ¿Puedo ir al baño?
What Is Included With TalkBox.Mom Box?
Each box is themed and comes with 3 challenges (activities) and a series of high-quality materials. Our first box was ‘The Snacks and Kitchen Box’. With this box, we learned the names of foods and common phrases and questions related to mealtime.
Other themes include self-care, actions, clothing, and chores—all things you can talk about at home.
My favorite component of the program is the Talkbox.Mom companion app. The app is so well put together it is like having a native speaking teacher at your fingertips.
One of the first and most encouraging things I learned while exploring the app was that you do not need to speak the words perfectly to start. Breaths a sigh of relief! It actually may take a couple of weeks or months to master certain words and phrases for nonnative speakers. That should not discourage you from practicing.
All of their products come with the TalkBox.Mom companion app with native speaker audio. The app is updated regularly with new phrases. Everyone gets all the new phrases in the app.
Other Items included in my TalkBox.Mom box:
- Professionally illustrated vocabulary posters to hang in your house
- Vocabulary and phrase cards to label things in the house
- Weekly challenge assignments to help stay on track
- You can also purchase a phrasebook for quick reference
