Every fall we take a short road trip as a family. Our goal for our fall trip is always to see and experience all that the season has to offer. Everything including bright and bold foliage, the cool autumn breeze, and the mountains and rolling hills of the Southeast.
We live in South Florida where there really isn’t much Autumn foliage and colorful scenery during the season. For our most recent fall getaway, we visited several parts of North Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. In Chattanooga, we stopped to see Rock City and Ruby Falls where we toured through an underground cave and saw one of North America’s tallest underground waterfalls.
Our tour of Ruby Falls was a definite highlight of our trip! On the tour, a host took us and a small group of visitors to the cavern via elevator. The guide then leads us through the cave, down the paved walkway, and toward Ruby Falls. We see lots of cool geological formations as we made our way to the waterfall. Finally, we saw Ruby Falls! The 144 ft underground waterfall is spectacular all by itself and they have added a light show and dramatic music to make the experience all the more momentous and memorable!
Planning A Visit to see Ruby Falls?
The tour lasts just over one hour. Be prepared to capture photos and videos at the end of the site as you will have limited time to view the beautiful waterfall. The pathway to the waterfall is paved, but it is wet and uneven at some points. There is no restroom once you are down in the cavern so you will want to take your little one on a restroom break before the tour starts. I was able to capture a short video of the waterfall. Check it out below.

Beautiful, looks like a safe haven to relax and enjoy nature! I’m headed to Orlando in a few months and I added this to my must-sees!

So pretty! I’m from KY and I don’t think I have heard of Ruby Falls. Looks like a great place for a family weekend!
They look absolutely beautiful! I would love to visit the falls some day!
This looks absolutely beautiful. Definitely putting this on my bucket list.
Wow, this is gorgeous! I live in CO and the caverns near Co Springs are some of our favorite family day trips. If we’re ever vacationing near the TN area we’ll definitely have to check this out. Thanks for the review!
