How to Play Matching Cards with Toddlers
For younger children, it’s best to start easy. Use the following method with your toddlers and youngest learners.
- Lay the cards out face up so all pictures are visible.
- Ask your child to find two cards that match.
- Each time they find a pair, celebrate their match and set it aside.
- Continue until all the cards are matched!

This version helps toddlers practice visual recognition, vocabulary, and sorting skills — all while having fun!
The pumpkin cards will keep your little ones engaged, all while having fun, spending quality time, and learning!
Set these matching cards out on the kids’ table on Thanksgiving, or have them on hand for kids to use throughout the season.

How to Play the Classic Memory Game
For your preschoolers who are ready for more of a challenge:
Shuffle the cards and lay them face down in a grid.
Next, have players take turns flipping over two cards at a time.
If the cards match, the player keeps the pair and takes another turn.
If they do not match, turn them back over and the next player goes.
Have children keep playing until all the pairs are found. The player with the most matches wins!
This version strengthens short-term memory, concentration, and patience and cooperation as kids will need to wait for their turn. These are great skills for both home and classroom learning time.
