Preschool at home

The preschool years, in my opinion, are some of the richest and most precious years of a child’s learning experience. In our homeschool, we’ve filled the preschool years with read-alouds, outdoor play, hands-on activities, and habit training.

I am now able to see the advantage of this gentle approach to learning during the early years in my now early-elementary-aged children.

Today, I am excited to share a useful resource for those of you looking to take this same approach to preschool at home with your little learner. If you’ve been around here for any length of time you know we love Sonlight Curriculum.

Sonlight’s brand new preschool program is a great open-and-go preschool curriculum that will allow you to lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

Sonlight’s Brand New Preschool Program

Designed for children ages 3-4, Sonlight’s new preschool curriculum includes both picture books and Montessori-type materials.

The books and activities in the preschool pack are a wonderful addition to your homeschool especially if you have or plan to have younger children as you can treasure and enjoy them for years to come.

Using this curriculum preschool-aged children will learn spatial relationships, build their cognitive and motor skills, grow in independence and self-confidence as they practice practical life skills.

The Books: Fiction, Fairy Tales, and Fun!

My favorite aspect of the Sonlight Preschool Pack is that it includes some of the finest selections of classic children’s literature and fairy tales available.

The pack comes with a variety of delightful children’s books including a bible, fairy tales, delightful picture books, and even a Spanish word board book.

All of my children enjoy the books included in this pack and often reach for them. They are a wonderful addition to any homeschool library.

Here is a list of the books Sonlight includes in the Preschool Pack:

Hands-On Learning for Preschool at Home

Montessori Preschool At Home

Sonlight’s preschool pack includes their Supply Kit for Preschool. The kit includes hands-on learning materials for children to use as they work through hands-on activities like letter tracing, shape sorting, and practical life skills.

For example, one activity requires the child to trace a geometric shape with a colored pencil then explore the house and outdoors for that particular shape.

Examples of practical life lessons in the program include having your child practice pouring water from one pitcher to another. It is suggested that you add food coloring to the water for interest and fun.

The Preschool Supply Kit includes:

  • child safety scissors
  • bingo markers
  • sensory letter cards
  • colored pencils with grip
  • nylon knife
  • 6×9 clipboard
  • 10 geometric shapes with knobs and frames
  • textured sensory letter cards (lower case)
  • textured sensory number cards
  • large number flashcards

Sonlight Preschool Instructor’s Guide: Open & Go

The Instructor’s Guide offers a 30-week-schedule, however, you are free and encouraged to revisit your favorite lessons as often as you and/or your child would like.

Lesson plans, tips, talking points, and student activities are included in the Instructor’s Guide.

The guide very clearly lays out a weekly overview in addition to more detailed daily instructions. This allows you to easily plan and anticipate what lessons are ahead.

The Instructor’s guide comes with hole-punches. You only need to place the guide into a 3-prong binder for easy use and storage.

The guide includes prayers, bible verses, the sound of the week, how to use the hands-on materials with your child, and more.

I find the new Sonlight Preschool Program to be perfect for busy homeschool families. If you are teaching other children, you will not need to split much of your time planning to teach your preschooler as Sonlight has done all of that for you by providing short and effective lessons.
