How to Play the Halloween Matching Game
Playing a matching or memory card game is a simple yet effective learning activity for young children. It helps build:
- Memory and concentration skills
- Visual recognition
- Practice turn-taking and patience
- Language development (as kids name and describe what they see)

Here’s how to play:
Print the free matching cards on sturdy paper or cardstock so that the images cannot be seen when the cards are faced down.
Cut out all 12 cards along the lines.
Laminate the cards if you’d like them to last through many rounds of play (beneficial for classroom or group use).
Shuffle the cards and place them face down in rows.
Have your kids take turns flipping over two cards at a time.
If the pictures match, that kid keeps the pair and takes another turn.
If they don’t match, the kid will flip the cards back and let the next player go.
Continue until all the pairs are found — the player with the most matches wins!

Fun and Creative Ways to Use the Halloween Matching Cards
Beyond the classic memory game, there are lots of creative ways to use these Halloween matching cards for play and learning:
Sorting Game: Have your child sort the cards by color, shape, or theme (for example, “things that fly” or “Halloween treats”).
🎃 Storytime Fun: Lay out a few cards and have your child make up a short Halloween story using the pictures.
👻 Scavenger Hunt: Hide the cards around the room or yard and have kids find and match the pairs.
🕸️ Sensory Bin Match: Add the laminated cards to a Halloween-themed sensory bin, as shown below.

Fill the bin with colored rice, pom-poms, or spooky trinkets. Have kids dig through and enjoy hours of sensory play.
