Books, Books, and More Books! Recently, I discovered a wonderful site, Book Outlet. It has been a true game-changer in how I am able to build our home library and I am thrilled to share it with you.
Like most homeschool moms, providing quality literature for my children is one of my top priorities.
Over the past few months and during the recent pandemic, my children and I have been relentlessly devouring every book we can get our hands-on. The additional time we’ve had to dedicate to reading aloud has encouraged my eight-year-old son to take on more challenging books. It has also given my youngest kid a new enthusiasm for learning to read.
The recent shutdowns truly changed the way we were living and in some cases how we were learning. During the height of things here in south Florida, our local library closed and books were not as accessible as once before.
In a local homeschool Facebook group, I inquired with some of the other moms about what they were doing to get more books. That’s when I was introduced to this awesome resource, Bookoutlet.com.
What is Bookoutlet.com
Book Outlet is an online bargain book store. They sell excess inventory from publishers. Because some of the books may have been handled prior to arriving at Book Outlet, they may have very minor wear, tear, or bends. See the photo below of an example of the condition my books arrived in.
The books I purchased were like new except some had a marking. If this is a problem for you, you will not want to purchase from this site as there is no way to know beforehand if your book will arrive with a mark.
Why I love Book Outlet
At Bookoutlet.com I’m able to shop from the comfort of my own home for wonderful children’s books. Shipping typically takes about 7-10 days. The best part is whenever you spend thirty-five dollars or more your items ship for Free! Free shipping is always an awesome perk.
So far, I’ve purchased approximately 40 books, all in great condition. In total, I’ve spent about one-hundred dollars, making the average cost of each book less than four dollars. The book styles range from hardcover, imitation leather covers, paperbacks, and hardbacks with dust jackets.
Some of the Top Book Titles:
I try to keep a list of books I want my children to experience. I use booklists from places like Simply Charlotte Mason, Reshelving Alexandria, Read-Aloud Revival, and Ambleside Online to choose some of the titles we will read. Below is a list of a few of the titles I was able to score for minimum cost at bookoutlet.com.
- Little House on the Prairie (Hardcover)
- Treasure Island (Imitation Leather)
- Gulliver’s Travel (Imitation Leather)
- The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (Hardcover)
I would compare my shopping at Bookoutlet.com to shopping at stores like TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Everything is new and there are some quality gems to be found, but they probably will not be there the next time you visit. Buy the bargains while you have the opportunity. I have noticed that some books will be available one minute and gone the next.
When I started shopping at Bookoutlet.com I would always place items in my cart to come back to later. Many of those books would be out of stock the next time I visited my cart. As the old saying goes, Get it While the Getting is Good! Bookoutlet.com tags low stock items with “low stock” notice. In my experience, the low stock tag is not merely a marketing ploy.
