So, next time you’re in a rush, try this cheesy and comforting skillet lasagna, and your family will thank you!
Why Skillet Lasagna
So, let me tell you why making cheesy lasagna in one skillet is the way to go.
First, it saves you time and effort.
Second, you get a perfectly cooked dish with all the flavors melding together in one pan. It’s almost hard for me to describe.
The texture of the cheeses, the meaty sauce, and the crispiness of the top cheesy layer just come together to make the most fantastic lasagna. The heat distributes evenly, so no burnt edges or unevenly cooked bits exist.
Oh, and did I mention how the cheese on top gets a beautiful golden crust without turning rubbery or being overcooked?
Continue to the end of this post for the printable ingredients and instructions. Then grab your skillet, and let’s get cookin’ that delicious, cheesy lasagna!
How to Make Skillet Lasagna
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and or pork for 5-7 minutes over medium-high heat until browned—season with salt, thyme, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, fennel seeds, sage, and pepper. Drain
- Add the pasta sauce and broth to the skillet. Stir to combine.
- Add the cooked lasagna noodles to the skillet. Use a utensil to make sure the noodles are submerged in the sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet with a lid. Cook for 20-25 minutes or until the noodles are tender. Taste for seasoning and adjust if needed.
- Mix the ricotta cheese, 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese, and grated Parmesan cheese in a separate bowl.
- Once the noodles are tender, remove the lid from the skillet—spoon dollops of the cheese mixture over the top of the lasagna. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese on top.
- Cover the skillet again and cook for 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
- Serve hot, and enjoy!
Substitutions and Additions
This recipe is easy to customize, and making this doesn’t have to be intimidating or time-consuming. Try adding different types of cheese or experimenting with different pasta sauces to make the recipe exactly to your liking.
Meat: You can substitute ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
Vegetables: You can pack in this dish as little or as many veggies as you want. Sometimes I like to add spinach and finely diced carrots to this lasagna. If adding carrots, add them with the onions so they have time to cook and become tender.
If adding spinach, you will want to add it just before adding in the ricotta cheese mixture.
